Captain Marvel - Film Review

Hi guys

Just a quick review of Captain Marvel and I really enjoyed it plus it had Brie Larson in it! Gorgeous.

Anyway I'll wipe away the drool long enough to write this review.

It starts with Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) waking up and being trained by her mentor Yon-Rogg played by Jude Law.
He assembles his team of Kree warriors to attack their enemies the Skrulls.  Skulls are cool shape changing aliens.
The mission goes wrong and Captain Marvel is captured by the Skrulls but escapes and lands with a bang on Earth in the nineties.

Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) who has both eyes intact investigates the crash landing and joins Captain Marvel as they battle the Skrulls.

Although there are plot twists - spoilers - the Skrulls (for now) ain't the bad guys and Captain Marvel remembers she's originally from Earth and is an air force pilot called Carol Danvers.

There is some cool action and set pieces and as always great SFX including de-aging Samuel L Jackson.
The plot is a bit thin and reminded me of Green Lantern but has some surprises and we find out how Nick Fury loses his eye (to a cute little cat).  This emphasises how evil cats are.

A plot point I didn't like is how the Kree were controlling Captain Marvels power with a chip on her neck.  Surely she would have felt it in shower etc.

Overall a great enjoyable film which added to the Marvel film universe and Brie Larson - hubba hubba.

Score      9/10

P.s. I hope to see the original Captain Marvel at the weekend.  Those that know their comic history know I'm on about Shazam!

April Showers and Gemmell Fantasy Awards

Hi guys

Just a quick update as I will be busy in April.

Firstly I will be writing again on my novel Colony X for CampNanoWrimo.
My goal is to write up to 5000 words this April and want to finish the first draft by August at the latest.

Secondly I have rejoined my local gym and need to dedicate as much spare time to getting fit and losing weight as I'm about six stone over weight!

Thirdly if I have any time left after writing and at the gym I hope to read as much as I can including finishing Legend of Deathwalker.

Lastly I will be in Cleethorpes for a week in April with my daughter.
So as well as the above the occasional blog post too.

Plus off to see Shazam and Avengers Endgame .......  can't wait!

Enjoy yourself folks and keep happy!

P.S. Last month heard from author Stan Nicholls that they have stopped doing the Gemmell Awards for Fantasy which is sad.  I was lucky enough to attend last year's event in Derby at Edge-lit.
I, like many authors had dreams of winning one of the awards one day so it is a blow to them and Gemmell fans.
I hope they can bring it back some day.
