Wakefield Waterstones and Book Haul(s)

Hi Folks

As part of my mad, weird scheme to visit as many Waterstones as I can, I found myself in the city of Wakefield.

It was the first time I had visited the city and thought it quite nice with some good shops.

Wakefield Waterstones itself was fine, although a little small.  Split over 2 floors it has a good selection of books, including my favourite Sci-fi and Fantasy.  Luckily the book I went for was there.

That book was The Wisdom of Crowds by Joe Abercrombie, which has just been published in paperback today and now completes the Age of Madness trilogy.  Although I've no idea when I'll get to it as I'm just coming out of a reading slump.

My Wakefield book haul.

The Wakefield store sadly doesn't have a cafe which would have been great.

Wakefield Waterstones Score  -  6.5/10

Recently also purchased Holy Sister via Amazon.

Well book nerds and book sniffers will blog again soon.

Dr Strange 2 In the Multiverse of Madness - Film Review

Hi Peeps

Sorry for the delay in posts.  Was too busy enjoying my holiday in Portugal.  Will post more pics on here soon.

Hope everyone is well.  At the weekend I went to see Marvel's newest film - Dr Strange 2 - in the Multiverse of Madness!

I was really looking forward to it after seeing the trailer after the brilliant Spiderman - No Way Home.  I was hoping for more Multiverse madness and various versions of other super heroes.

Sadly there are only a few here and they all (Spoilers) die within 10 minutes of screen time.  Plus there wasn't the Ironman or Spiderman variant the rumours made out there would be.

It starts with Defender Strange protecting a young girl from a monster. She is America Chavez and has the power to open portals to other universes.  The monster it turns out is being controlled by our Scarlet Witch played by the gorgeous Elizabeth Olsen.  She is wanting to travel the multiverse using the girls powers so she can steal versions of her own children.

This is more a sequel to Wanda-vision, the Disney plus show than the first Dr Strange. Plus it has the task of being after Spiderman - No Way Home and Avengers Endgame.  Because of this it can get convoluted.

Benedict Cumberbatch is great as Dr Strange and the variants he plays and the other actors do well.  Sadly the plot lets them down and in parts the CGI isn't great.

The director Sam Raimi should have been left to do his own thing, but like his Spiderman 3, the studio has meddled.

Overall - A good film which fails to live up to the heights of the best Marvel films including Avengers, Captain America - Civil War, Avengers - Infinity War and Endgame and Spiderman - No Way Home.  It could have been so much more and people were expecting a lot more cameos from variant superheroes.

Bels Score  -  7.5/10

May 2022 Update

Greetings from Portugal

Hope you are all well.

Will keep this brief as Wi-fi is limited.

In May after the all inclusive holiday to Portugal I will be concentrating all my efforts to getting a job.  So that I can save up and go on holiday again. Sadly these things cost!

After that my reading and writing will be a priority.  I hope to get into writing again and who knows that may pay for a holiday one day.

I hope to go to Cleckheaton Writing Group this month and the writing group at the new Geek Retreat in Halifax.

Almost finished reading Malice! Hope to review in next few days. Great so far!

Well chat later folks x
