Currently Reading - Forever Autumn by Mark Morris

Hi Readers

A quick post.  Thought I'd just share the first book I'm reading in 2024.  Forever Autumn by Mark Morris.  A tenth Doctor Who novel.

So far quite good.  It's the first book in my second Doctor Who book collection - see photos below.

What are you reading?

Book Review - Wrath by John Gwynne

Books Read in 2023/2024

Hi Book Nerds

At last I have finished Wrath by John Gwynne.  The finale to his excellent, The Faithful and the Fallen series.
It has took me some time to read this book.  I started it on September 16th 2023.
It has also taken some time to read the series as I started the first novel Malice in June 2022. That is 1 year and 7 months of reading the series.
It's not that the series was bad, and I struggled to read the books.  That's not the case at all, as I loved the books.  The characters, the world and the action.  They read very similar to David Gemmell, and every time I read, I enjoyed whilst reading.  It was probably the wrong time for me mentally as I was in a reading slump.
I haven't added this to my 2024 books as I started in 2023.

Yet here I am, now finished and wow what a book, what a series.

Wrath wraps up the series in style, with action, betrayal, joy and sadness.
You see favourite characters have bitter sweet endings like Maquin and evil characters like Lykos and Rafe get what they deserve.
John Gwynne is an excellent writer who keeps you on edge, with short chapters and cliff hanger endings.

The story follows the final battle between Corban and the evil God Asroth and his followers.

Overall - a great action packed finale to a great debut series by John Gwynne.  The second half of the book just sweeps along with action and cliff hangers as you see if your favourite characters will make it through the war.  I can't wait to read the sequel series Of Blood and Bones and John's Bloodsworn series.
Fans of David Gemmell will love it.

Score   -   10/10

Goodreads Score  - 5/5

The Faithful and the Fallen Series overall score - 9.5/10

24 Books in 2024 Amendment

Hi Book Nerds!

Just a quick post about the books I'm hoping to read this year.

As you may know my favourite author is David Gemmell.

This year is the 40th Anniversary of his first novel Legend, which was published way back in 1984.  Time has gone so quickly as I was only 8 years old.

To celebrate I've added this to the 24 books to read in 2024.  Now my second reread of the list.  If you've seen my list there are already a few David Gemmell books on there.

I'm surprised the publishers haven't brought out a special 40th edition hardback!

This means a book will have to come off the list.

Sadly this book is Night Watch by Terry Pratchett, which I've had years and wanted to read.

I've Guards Guards on my list but my friend Chris, advised I'm best reading a couple more in the City Watch sub series of Discworld books to get the full pleasure of Night Watch.

I've changed this on Goodreads also.

Well happy reading!

24 books in 2024 Challenge

Hi Book Worms

2023 was a reading disaster for me!  I'm still finishing off the second book I started - Wrath.  So I'm not counting this in the books read in 2024.

I'm hoping to not only get back into my writing in 2024, which I've started on the Fire and Ice challenge on Facebook, but also to read more in 2024.

At the moment there are quite a few Book-tubers and an author pal of mine Mark Morris doing the 24 books in 2024 challenge.  The goal is to choose 24 books you are definitely going to read in the year - although once read you can go on to read as many books as you want.

I've already selected the 24 books I'm hoping to read this year, after wrapping up on Wrath, and put them on my Goodreads library.  Most of the books I put on last years Goodreads books to read are on.  I've just tweaked a few and gone for smaller books this time around.

This year I have a re-read on my list.  This will be the first time I have re-read a book in ages.

This is The Infinity Trap by my author pal Ian C Douglas.  I read it a few years ago but thought I'd re-read it so I can read the complete Zeke Hailey saga in one.

Below are photos of the books I'm attempting to read this year.

Out of the books, one is a Mark Morris book.  A Doctor Who story called Forever Autumn.

Wish me luck!

Happy New Year and Trip to York

Happy New Year Everyone!

Just a quick post.

Last week took my daughter to one of my favourite places - York.

It was a wet and flooded place which was sad to see.  Although looked amazing on the train to York.

Luckily for most of the day, the rain stayed away and we had a look around the city, and visited my favourite Waterstones.  There we had a drink and doughnut and I bought my last book of 2023.

I purchased Paradise 1 by David Wellington, which on the blurb on the back sounds similar to the sci-fi book I was writing Colony X.  Hopefully will be different enough so my novel will be published one day?

Well below are more photos of our trip to York.

Well hopefully will post soon.
