Terminator - Dark Fate - Film Review - Spoilers
Hi guys
Well I went to watch the newest Terminator sequel/reboot which i don't think was needed but quite enjoyed it.
This film ignores all the other sequels after T2 so they are now not canon which annoyed me as I wanted to know who sent the good Terminator back in Terminator Genysis.
So the film starts off a year after T2 and what Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) doesn't know is that before they destroyed Skynet in the past it sent a couple of Terminators through to the past as a last ditch attempt to kill John Connor and shock, horror as Sarah and John are relaxing a T-800 (Arnie) model guns down John Connor.
This is a bit of a shock as he had been the main player in T2 and past films and was built up as mans saviour.
So switch to Mexico where we follow a young (short) woman called Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes) who is now a target from a newer further future where the AI is called Legion instead of Skynet but it's basically the same just in the future named differently.
Legion has sent back it's version of a Terminator called a Rev-9 which can split in two with the main part being liquid metal so it's like a T-800 and T-1000 in one and slightly different and a darker metal. The Rev-9 is played by Gabriel Luna who was great as Ghostrider on Agents of Shield.
Added to the mix as Dani's protector is Grace (Mackenzie Davies) who is a human hybrid cyborg from Dani's future.
Plus one woman Terminator hater Sarah Connor joins them on a mission for revenge after the death of John.
Once they have met up they decide to find whoever has been texting Sarah with Co-ordinance of incoming Terminators for her to kill and see if they can help them.
After about an hour into the film they finally find the T-800 who killed John who has decided not to follow his programme and settled down with family and re-named himself Carl.
At first Sarah wants to kill him but relents as it shows machines and man can live together in peace.
Overall - there is plenty of action and the effects are great but it feels like I've watched most of it before in past films.
Also the time travel in the film bugged me abit as didn't make total sense.
It also bugged me that in the future a five foot woman could be a tough resistance leader and take on five men on her own as she does in the film in a flash forward. It wasn't believable.
Also Dani's protector Grace isn't great as she can only fight in short bursts before needing to cool down and take medicine like a Universal Soldier.
There are some funny moments with Arnies Carl talking about Drapes and the new Rev-9 Model is slick and blends in easier than previous Termintors.
Sadly I don't think the film was needed and it's bad it's making a loss.
Score 7/10
