Sonic the Hedgehog - Film Review
Hi guys
Yesterday went to see the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Based on the popular 80s and 90s Sega video games, which happens to be one of my favourites as they are fairly easy and simple games to play.
The film is similar as its easy to watch and a simple plot film starting with a great CGI world where Sonic lives spinning around, just like watching the game.
Sonic goes to his mentor Longclaw the Owl who tells Sonic to hide his powers. Bad guys attack (probably find out more about these in a sequel), and Longclaw gives Sonic teleporting Rings to hide in another world which takes Sonic to Earth.
Ten years later Sonic has lived in a cave reading Flash comics. Talking to himself and watching speedcop Tom (played by James Marsden - X men) and his family.
Then one night feeling upset and alone Sonic accidentally releases his Sonic Boom which shuts off all electricity in the State.
This brings him to the attention of the Military and in the crosshairs of Dr Robotnik (played by a crazy Jim Carrey).
A pursuit ensues to San Francisco where Sonic has lost his Rings and to escape the clutches and machines of Dr Robotnik.
Overall - A solid Videogame to Film conversion and probably the best as it hardly changes anything. It does start off slow for a film about a super fast hedgehog but once Dr Robotnik arrives the action speeds up. Although I thought we'd see more from Jim Carrey.
But with excellent CGI and good performances from all cast it is worth a watch (or two).
Score - 8/10 - good film sets up a sequel.
