Dad - 30 Years Gone

On this day 30 years ago - 18 September 1992 - Barry Frederick Walker died suddenly at home.

He is still sorely missed by those who knew him, myself, Mum and his sister Jeanne and her children.

The 30 years have gone fast, yet at the same time it doesn't seem like 2 mins since he was here.  Although time is a bastard and sadly my memory isn't great and I struggle to remember his deep voice.

Born 1st January 1945 to Frederick and Hilda Walker in Blackpool he was the younger brother to Barbara.

Sadly Barbara passed away at 16 which hit Dad hard.  He also had a younger sister Jeanne.

His early life was well travelled as he was in an army family going where his Dad Frederick went, including living in a Monastery in France.

Growing up Dad was into poetry - some I will share in another blog post.
He followed his Dad into the army. Joining the Duke of Wellington regiment and working his way up the ranks.

Dad went on tour to many barracks including Cyprus, Northern Ireland and Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong he met his first wife Anne and had 2 children - Dean and Lyndsey.
In Hong Kong Dad and Anne eventually split and he left the army and came back to Brighouse in the early 70s.

On one fateful night at the White Swan pub, he met Joan Martin and the rest is history.

Mum and Dad married, and had me in 1976. We lived in Smith House Grove until the fateful day in 1992.  RIP Dad.
