Independent Bookshop Week 2018 - 16 - 23 June

Just Books - Brighouse

The Bookcorner - Piece Hall - Halifax

Hi guys

Just found out about an event that is going on from tomorrow Friday 16 June for a week which I'm going to support and hope all you readers and writers do too.

It is Independent Bookshop Week which is part of Books are my Bag campaign which encourages reading.

As much as I love Waterstones I believe Independent bookshops are important.
During the week there will be author signings, reading groups and literary lunches to name but a few things going off in bookshops.
Also there is a bookshop crawl which sounds fun.

Personally I hope to visit bookshops in Harrogate or York this weekend as well as the local ones above.

Late June Update

Hi folks

Just a quick post to give you all a catch up on what I'm up to!

The quick answer - not much.

Yep still not got into my writing although made notes for a short story.

Also over half way through A Darkness at Sethanon by Raymond E Feist which so far is awesome but not read as constantly as I should have and took over 3 to 4 weeks of reading.

So time for a few goals to finish by end of June -  this may help me get motivated and focused.

  • Finish A Darkness at Sethanon.
  • Start and try finish another book - Prince of the Blood by Raymond E Feist.
  • Finish writing a short story.
  • Few more blog posts including a review of Solo.
  • Eat healthier.
  • Re-start the gym.
Hope I can get most of these done by end of June.  Will update you soon!

Catch up later peeps!

Deadpool 2 - Film Review - Mild Spoilers

Hi guys

Went to see the sequel to 2016 R rated hit Deadpool.  Have to say it doesn't feel like two years since the last film came out.

This time there is more money thrown at making the sequel which means better CGI, more characters and better action sequences.

This time we see Deadpool up to his usual self killing bad guys and madly in love with girlfriend Vanessa who has accepted Deadpools potted look.

Events take a turn for the worse when some bad guys who have followed Deadpool home start shooting up his place.  Inevitably Vannesa gets in the way and *spoilers* is killed.

This has Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) wanting to top himself but can't because of his healing abilities.
Colossus comes to help his friend and he reluctantly agrees to train as an X Man. Cue one of the best cameos in the film.

At the same time Cable (Josh Brolin) has come from the future to stop a boy Russell from becoming a future villian and stop him wiping his family out.

Deadpool tasks himself with saving Russell and even sets up his own team X Force with hilarious results.

The laughs are good but feel more forced than first film although some are great when Deadpool gets ripped in half and what happens to his X Force team.

Overall - A great film with gross humour and some great action and forth wall breaks but obviously doesn't feel as fresh as first movie.  Plus there are too many Marvel references.  Hope there is a third film though!

Score    -   8/10
