Venom - Film Review

Hi guys

Recently went to see the new Marvel/Sony Film Venom starring Tom Hardy (my doppelganger) as reporter Eddie Brock.

As it's not set in the MCU universe it can't use Spider-Man who played a major part in the origin story of Venom in the comics and Sam Raimis Spider-Man 3.  Although Venom is just thrown in at the end it could have used him as big bad of a Spider-Man 4?

I digress.  This version of Venom is much better.  Starting off with a shuttle crashing on Earth which has found evidence of life it starts slow as Eddie Brock investigates Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), founder of the Life Foundation who is trying to merge alien symbiotes with humans to create a better race.

After losing his girlfriend Anne he decides to break into the foundation where the Venom symbiote mergers with him.

This is where the fun starts as Carlton Drake sends thugs to get the symbiote back and the symbiote talks and bonds with Eddie.

This version of Venom is more of a parasite inside Eddie as opposed to the one in Spiderman 3 which seemed more on the outside.

Plus we get to know Venom as a character who tells Eddie there are millions of his kind who invade planets and eats the people.

With some great set pieces and special effects this is a blast and feels different to the MCU movies which is a good thing as they are a bit formulaic.  Sony has at last made a great superhero film and didn't need Spider-Man to help it.

With the chat between Eddie and Venom it has a feel of a cop buddy movie at times.  Here's hoping Sony continue this success with Venom 2.  It will be Carnage he he.

Overall  - Sony finally hit the mark with Tom Hardy making us forget about Spider-Man who doesn't need to be in this.  Go watch this and here's to Venom 2.
