Hi Everyone
Took my daughter to see the latest film in the Shrek universe. Puss in Boots 2 - The Last Wish. A sequel to the first 2011 film and a spin of from the Shrek films.
The film sees Puss (voiced again by Antonio Banderas), as he faces his mortality, when he finds himself on his last cat life. Of course cats are meant to have 9 lives. He has fritted his previous lives away playing up to being a legend, hero and outlaw.
He follows doctors orders to have a peaceful life in a cat sanctuary, where he blends in with other cats. He even meets Perro a homeless dog pretending to be a cat for free food.
Unfortunately the criminal family of Goldilocks and the 3 bears come looking for Puss. They want him to steal a map from Big Jack Horner, which shows the location of a fallen star which grants one wish. With the opportunity to wish himself his 9 lives back, he goes to steal the map for himself. Here he meets his ex fiance Kitty Softpaws (voiced by the beautiful Salma Hayek).
Overall - a brilliant animated movie and I think it's my favourite in all the Shrek universe. It touches on growing old, mortality and life's regrets which resonates with me. All around some great animation, voice acting, comedy and action. These are strong themes in a children's animation, yet works well.
There are loads of nods to the other Shrek films including Puss in Boots 1. There are also cameos from Shrek's films, including Pinocchio, so it is more connected to the Shrek films.
It also has more fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters and situations.
I think DreamWorks are gearing up for another Shrek movie, especially how it ended. I for one can't wait.
Scores -
Bel - 10/10
