Book Review - Hero in the Shadows by David Gemmell

Hi Folks

Have finally finished Hero in the Shadows by David Gemmell.   It has taken me just short of three months but yet again that is down to me procrastinating and watching YouTube.

It is the third and sadly final Waylander book in the Drenai series and is set before Winter Warriors.

Waylander has now semi-retired and older living under the guise of The Grey Man and is a rich merchant with his own palace far away from Drenai.
The past is about to come back to Waylander personally and to the nearby ancient city of Kuan Hador where minions of an evil past are about to open a gateway to demons who once threatened the world.

The book is similar to Winter Warriors as Waylander and his group of heroes including Keeva, a woman he saves who has a knack for learning quick are usually on the run from the more powerful threats of the magician Eldicar.
There is a lot going into this book with multiple characters and povs.

Overall  - a great adventure book with interesting characters and sub plots but similar to his other Drenai novels.
Not one of Gemmells best books but not his worst either.
It's sad to say goodbye to Waylander as he's a favourite character of mine and I would have loved to see him meet Druss but his story ends well.

Score -   8/10

If Goodreads would be 4/5.

Next few books I read are going to be shorter and different genre - probably a few Dr Who books to bump my reading up this year so I read more.
